Almost Everyone uses one of the 2,800 emojis chatting daily. Did you know that the pictures can also cause problems? And that many are misunderstood again and again?

Emojis are very popular in chats: In 2017, Apple released an overview of the most popular emojis from iPhone, iPad and Mac users. In first place: "Laughing with tears in the eyes". The English lexicon "Oxford Dictionary" also chose this emoji "Word of the Year" in 2015.

The "Emojitracker" confirms the Apple statistics. The site analyzes all short messages sent worldwide on Twitter in real time on used emojis. The red heart is in second place in both statistics. While that

These emojis are often misused

Water pistol or real weapon?

However, the meaning of emojis can not only vary because of misinterpretations but because they are presented differently in the different operating systems. For example, Apple decided in 2016 to replace the pistol with a water pistol. However, the normal pistol still appeared on Android devices. Today many Android smartphones also show a water pistol.

Emojis can also pose a problem: this revealed a security hole in Microsoft's messaging program "Skype". For example, about 100 emojis in "Skype for Business" and "Microsoft Lync" made the program noticeably slower. 800 emojis in a message even let the messenger freeze. Meanwhile, the vulnerability could be closed by an update.
