Despite Khashoggi murder: Trump swears allegiance to the Crown Prince

The fact that Jamal Khashoggi was killed by Saudi agents does not even challenge Riyadh. For the US president, however, that's no reason to shake the lucrative partnership with the sheikhs.

Despite the assassination of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, US President Donald Trump continues to hold the royal house in Riyadh. The US and Saudi Arabia remained "invincible partners," Trump said in a paper on Tuesday, stressing that "the United States intends to remain a strong partner in Saudi Arabia."


Trump did not want to exclude a suspicion of the Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman at Khashoggi's assassination but considers it unproven. "It could very well be that the Crown Prince knew about this tragic incident - maybe he had that and maybe he did not!" It may be that all the facts surrounding this "unacceptable and terrible crime" may never come to light, added the US president.

CIA supposedly sees Kronprinz as a mastermind
Khashoggi had gone to the Saudi consulate in the Besiktas district of Istanbul on October 2 to pick up papers for his planned wedding, but could not get out. After weeks of denials, Saudi Arabia, under international pressure, finally admitted killing Khashoggi at the consulate, but this was initially the result of a dispute. It was only later that Riad indirectly admitted that Khashoggi was deliberately killed by agents of the kingdom.

The Washington Post, citing several sources, said the CIA sees Mohammed bin Salman as the mastermind behind the violent death. The State Department in Washington, however, made it clear that no final assessment had yet been made. It was eagerly awaited how Trump would position himself. He had announced a "comprehensive report" on the killing of Khashoggi, which should be available by this Tuesday. Now he published a short written statement.


Trump praises economic connections
In it, Trump extols the role of Saudi Arabia in the fight against terrorism and the country's close economic relations with the United States. Saudi Arabia is investing billions in the United States and creating hundreds of thousands of jobs here. If the US were foolish enough to lift these treaties with the Saudis, Russia and China would be profiteers, the US president warned.

The United States has already imposed sanctions on those involved, said Trump. However, the Saudi king and the Saudi crown prince vehemently refused to know about the murder plans. The US intelligence agencies continued to investigate the information on the case. In any case, the connection to the Saudi Kingdom exists. The country is a great ally in the important fight against Iran.
