Berlin Is To Get A New Holiday
If you work in Berlin, you have less free time than anywhere else in Germany. That should change now partly. A new holiday is planned - and the political majority is well.
As the first federal state, Berlin is expected to mark the International Women's Day on 8 March as a public holiday. A few days after the left and the SPD spoke on Wednesday, the Group of the Greens in the House of Representatives majority of it.
The last word should now have the delegates of a Green party congress on Saturday. That they support the proposal but is considered very likely.
In order for the new holiday to be implemented in the coming year, a request must be quickly submitted to the House of Representatives and approved. The red-red-green ruled Berlin is one of the federal states with the fewest public holidays. Currently, there are 9, in Bavaria against 13.
