Direct train between Eindhoven and Düsseldorf in 2025
There will be a direct train between Eindhoven and Düsseldorf. State Secretary Van Veldhoven has submitted a plan for this to the House of Representatives. Travelers can now also travel by train between Eindhoven and Düsseldorf, but then they have to change trains in Venlo.
Because of the direct connection, people would only travel about 1 hour and 40 minutes. Now the travel time is about 2 hours. The expectation is that the change will generate some 250,000 extra passengers, an increase of 40 percent.
Van Veldhoven talks about the connection with Germany. She expects it to be a fact in 2025. According to the secretary of state, the tender can be started in a few weeks. Then trains must be ordered and delivered that can run on both the German and Dutch railways.
The State Secretary believes that better international train connections should also be made in other places. For example, she wants shorter travel times between Amsterdam and Berlin and more trains between Amsterdam and London.
